'Plaint of the Playwright

[ Monday, March 29, 2004 ]

Y'know, I got so caught up in feeling sorry for myself for the whole "being fired" thing, I forgot to give you the cool news that happened on the same day:

Two of my monologues (including "Duane," which was in "Lil' Pervs") are going to be published in The Ultimate Monologue Book Vol 4: 222 Monologues 2 Minutes and Under.

Pretty cool, huh?

It's just nice to know that the next time some crappy student actor annoys a drama teacher with his or her poorly thought-out acting choices, there's like a one-in-a-hundred chance it will be my words that student will use.

Neato!

Given my papers.

Pink-slipped.

Booted.

Ousted.

Caught in a restructuring.

Rendered redundant.

HISTORY.

Today, all of these things are me.

That's right, at about two in the afternoon I was fired from my job as a bank teller.

The reason I was given was that someone called the vice president of the bank to tell her that they were shocked that I was still alowed to work there. I, apparently, never smile, never talk, and that they actively avoid that branch of the bank because I work there.

The V.P. told me that when she tried to think about anything about me that would contradict that statement, she could come up with nothing.

Although she gave me a raise less than two months ago becuase she heard I had made tremendous improvement at the bank, she assured me that this was not enough.

Asking for my side of the story was not neccessary, so she got my bag and my coat, and escorted me out.

I didn't even get to say goodbye.

I asked why I had to leave right then, and I was told that bank policy is that this is how they handle it. With me sneaking out the back door.

They told me it was for my benefit that they do it this way.

I sugggested that if this were truly for my benefit, that they may have given me at least enough time to find another job.

They didn't have an answer for that.

Hey, kids.

Don't forget, this is an election year.

So be sure to do your part with these groovy printable Bush/Cheney election stickers.

An enterprising mind might find an evil application for these.

Just saying.

Okay, here's the first:

Personally, I think enough of these passed around would cost him the election. But if you want to go another route...

Yeah, it's a little more smarmy. Not quite as underhanded as the last one.

The next one is a little more obscure...

A little obscure? Mean-spirited? Kick it around. It's catchy.

Okay, let's try for optimistic...

See? Nicer! I mean, what are the odds that we could have another war? Because first off, we'd have to finish the one we're in now, and second...

Yeah, I got nothing. Moving on...

Because burning bridges is the American way.

You know, it's not ethical to have a favorite child, but I really feel there's no topping our next one...

That's all, folks! Remember, I'm not saying you SHOULD print out a bunch of these and hand them out at Bush election rallies...just that if someone did it, it'd be pretty neat.

Is my passport ready, yet?
